Beit Wakil, Aleppo
Beit Wakil, a true example of 16th century Aleppine architecture, is a charming townhouse, situated just outside the old city walls, that has been sensitively converted into a small hotel. Built around a beautiful courtyard with marble fountains among the jasmine and lemon trees, the hotel offers comfortable accommodation with modern facilities while retaining its authentic atmosphere.
The 16 rooms (admittedly on the small side) are centrally air conditioned, with traditional comfortable Aleppine furniture, minibar, music, satellite TV, phone and private bathrooms (shower only). One of the 3 hotel suites (available at a supplement) is pictured below. Both the summer and winter restaurants offer a wide variety of delicious Aleppine mezzes and specialities together with an oriental entertainment programme of classical Arabic music and dancing. The bar, situated in the stone-built cellars, specialises in western cuisine and international cocktails and drinks.
