Desert Lodge, Dakhla Oasis

Desert Lodge, Dakhla Oasis

The lodge at dusk

The Desert Lodge is built in the traditional style of the local architecture and situated on a cliff close to Al Qasr, the oldest and most interesting town of the Dakhla Oasis.  It is a peaceful spot with views of the distant sand dunes of the Sahara desert.

The Lodge has just 32 large rooms (pictured below), all with private bathrooms. The rooms are simply but tastefully furnished in the local style. They all have telephones. In order to keep the air well circulated during the hot season, the rooms have high ceilings and are equipped with a fan. In cold winter nights, heaters can be installed upon request.

The lodge's 'Abu Ballas' dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  There is also the Cafeteria Domino for drinks and snacks.  Soft drinks, local wine and beer are served at the Leila Bar, and there is also a Bedaoui Tent offering various teas, Arabic coffee and the traditional 'shisha' (waterpipe).

The hotel has its own workshop for artists (painting, calligraphy, yoga etc.), a small library with books about the desert and the surrounding area and an Internet Café.  Games are available (billiards, outdoor chess, backgammon) and mountain bicycles can be rented.

There is a natural hot spring for bathing (temperature about 30°C).
