People often ask me which is my favourite hotel in the world. It's an almost impossible question to answer, as there are so many wonderful properties in many different destinations, all of which offer something special. But Dwarika's would certainly be a major contender...

This is truly a unique place. The whole concept is extraordinary in itself - rescuing distressed doors, windows, carvings and brickwork from old Kathmandu buildings that were being cleared in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for modern construction projects...and then incorporating these into the fabric of a new hotel. But not only is the idea revolutionary, it's the quality of the finished product. Dwarika's is simply superb.

On your final night I strongly recommend sampling the 9 course Nepalese banquet at Dwarika's Krishnarpan Restaurant - I can't think of a better way to end your holiday in Nepal!

Nepal has eight World Heritage sites and has won two Heritage Awards. One for the Medieval City of Bhaktapur and the other for Dwarika's Hotel.

The magnificence of Dwarika's lies in its buildings of intricate carved wood and terracotta work. Every brick is handmade and every piece of woodwork a centuries-old original. But Dwarika's is also about intimate luxury and the spirit and hospitality of the Nepali people.

Dwarika Das Shrestha, the founder of Dwarika's Hotel, dedicated the best part of his life to building this unique place, employing hundreds of the best builders and craftsmen in Nepal to help him realise his dream.

Dwarika's offers 74 Deluxe Rooms and Suites. Each of the rooms has its own character and individuality. There are 16th century windows in many, while there are private courtyards attached to others. You will find all the amenities of a luxury hotel; but perhaps what you will appreciate more is the elegant comfort of your room - handsomely appointed with handmade fabrics and furniture custom designed from traditional patterns. The wonderful Krishnarpan Restaurant offers some of the best recipes in Nepal. The finest meat, vegetables, aromatic spices, purified oils and saffron are selected by the chef every day to create for you an exotic meal of from 6 to 22 courses.

There is a large outoor swimming pool (pictured below) and a spa offering Ayurvedic massage.
