Coptic Museum and the Gayer-Anderson House

Coptic Museum and the Gayer-Anderson House

Egypt Holidays - Gayer-Anderson House

Your driver and guide will collect you from your hotel* and take you to the old city of Cairo.

Visit the Coptic Museum, one of the lesser known highlights of the city, whose peerless collection of Coptic artefacts is enhanced by the beautiful carved ceilings, beams and stained-glass domes (see pictures below). It was founded in 1908 with the intention of saving Christian antiques from the ravages of neglect and foreign collectors.

Continue to the unique private collection of Oriental treasures in the Gayer-Anderson House (also known as the Gayer-Anderson Museum), set in two converted mansions dating from the 16th and 18th centuries.  R. G. Gayer-Anderson was a retired British major who began the collection in the 1930s.

* This excursion is often taken in the afternoon following a visit to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, in which case you will retain the driver and guide from the morning's excursion and not return to your hotel in between.  Lunch (not included) can be taken in Central Cairo.
