Ethiopia Holidays - Dasanech girls, Omorate, Omo Valley

After breakfast a two-hour drive from your base in Kolcho will bring you to Omorate (shown on some maps as ‘Kalem’), a remote area reached by canoe across the Omo River after leaving the main road.  Here you will visit the Dasanech villages, inhabited by the Galeb peoples who migrated here from the Lake Turkana region of Northern Kenya in the late 18th century.  You will see their traditional settlements with their distinctive domed huts and learn about their lifestyle.  The Galeb were originally pastoralists, but now follow a subsistence economy based on fishing and agriculture as well as herding livestock.
