A Day in the Kakheti Region

Explore the picturesque Kakheti Region, the most fertile part of Georgia which borders the
Great Caucasus range with its summits of over 3,000 metres.  This region is known as a the birthplace of viticulture and wine-making. The rich soil, burning sun and hard work have developed about 500 varieties of vine in Georgia over the millennia. The history, culture and lifestyle of Georgians are embodied in Georgian wine; it has become a symbol of
Georgian hospitality, friendship, tolerance, and a key to the mystery of Georgian longevity!  Your day will include a visit to the Tsinandali Estate with its beautiful botanical garden, museum and wine cellar which belonged to prince Chavchavadze - an eminent public figure and poet of 19th century; the architectural Complex of Gremi, which includes the 16th century castle and the Church of the Archangels; the elegant 11th century Alaverdi Cathedral (pictured right); the royal town of Signagi (below), once an important crossroads on the ancient Silk Road; and the Bodbe Convent (8th to 9th century).
