Akbar's Mausoleum, Sikandra
PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR
The mausoleum of Akbar the Great at Sikandra is a beautifully proportioned complex set in extensive gardens. It is often omitted from tour itineraries but it is well worth the effort. Its structure is unusual in that the central base is not topped by a dome as in most Mughal buildings; this is reputedly because Akbar's son Jehangir altered the design halfway through construction. There is some excellent inlay work around the lower storey (see below), and the gardens are attractive, with deer roaming in the tall grasses.
Includes private transportation, guide and entrance fees.
