Taybet Zaman Village, Wadi Mousa
Taybet Zaman Village is located just 12 km from Petra and enjoys breathtaking views of the Sharah Mountain Range. The village of Taybeh had once been a thriving farming community which by the end of the 20th century found itself on the brink of extinction. In an imaginative project inaugurated by the local mayor, in association with the Jordan Tourism Investment Group, the entire village was sensitively converted into a hotel complex, with the Taybeh community actively involved in the whole process.
The 102 renovated and converted rooms were formerly the village homes in which Taybeh’s original inhabitants lived. Constructed of thick stone walls that keep cool through the hot summer and warm during winter, the houses’ windows and doors are adorned with rustic shutters of weathered arrowroot wood. Furnishings are comfortable, yet remain true to the original 19th Century style, and modern amenities - climate-control, private bathrooms with hairdryers, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone service, mini-bars, 24-hour room service, and secure safe-deposit boxes - have been added.
The old village centre retains its original water-well and marble benches. The history of Taybeh village is always evident, whether at the handicraft souk or the small shop that sells a selection of incense, tea, hand soaps, and body creams. During the warmer months, Taybet Zaman’s outdoor swimming pool (pictured below) is a welcome respite after exploring the many sights in the area. The resort’s Hammam, designed with original Ottoman features, offers professional massage as well as traditional Turkish spa rejuvenation and relaxation services.
There is a Garden Bar decorated with local farming artifacts and colourful hand-woven cushions, and a restaurant offering both Arabic and international cuisine.
