Morocco Holidays - the Bab el Mansour gate in Meknes

Originally founded in medieval times, Meknes was rebuilt and extended in the 17th century by the Moroccan king Moulay Ismail, who made the city his capital.  As a former Imperial city, Meknes has much to see.  Your visit will include El Heri Souani, the granary and stables (below left) built by the soldiers of Moulay ismail beside a huge reservoir; the mausoleum of the king with its harmonious Moorish design; the Bab el Mansour Gate, considered by many to be the most beautiful in North Africa; and nearby El Hedim Square, with its busy food market (below right).
