Okonjima Main Camp
The Okonjima Lodge was the original Hanssen family farmhouse, reconstructed as a Lodge in 1992 and refurbished and extended in 2008. Now known as the Main Camp, the lodge offers 20 double ensuite bedrooms, including 10 new View Rooms (below left), an open-fire entertainment area (below right), and a secluded swimming pool.
With over 300 bird species – including most of the Namibian endemics – birdwatching from the Main Canp’s hide is extraordinary. You may also enjoy various walking trails including a guided San (Bushman) trail, and excellent home cooked meals are served indoors or outside around a fire. At night there is the opportunity to watch for porcupine, honey-badgers and caracal, amongst others, from the nocturnal hide.
There is also a luxury Bush Camp, which offers 8 thatched African-style chalets, a luxury honeymoon suite and 3 ensuite tents. The Bush Camp also has a swimming pool and is located 3km from the Main Camp.
Okonjima is home to the AfriCat Foundation. This is a non-profit organization, is committed to long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, particularly leopards and cheetahs.
There is a private airstrip at the lodge - 5 minutes away. By road, Okonjima is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes from Windhoek.
Children under 12 years of age are not permitted at Main Camp or Bush Camp.
