Combine a comprehensive tour of Vietnam with the fabulous ancient temples of Angkor in Cambodia

Recommended flight from London: Thai Airways International from London Heathrow to Hanoi via Bangkok (see below). If you are travelling from a country other than the UK we would be happy to give you guidance on your flight options.

DAY 1 – Arrival in Hanoi.  Afternoon city tour.

On arrival in Hanoi in the morning you will be met outside customs by a representative of World Discovery and taken by private car direct to your hotel.  In the afternoon your private guide will collect you for an orientation tour of Hanoi, including the Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter.

DAY 2 – Hanoi.

The day is at leisure in Vietnam's capital city.  There are several interesting museums you could visit - the Museum of Ethnology, or the History Museum - or you might simply want to return to the atmospheric Old Quarter with its shops, restaurants and bars.  In the early evening there is the opportunity to watch a traditional Water Puppet show at the Municipal Theatre.  The World Discovery agents can organise any of these visits for you.
Meals included: Breakfast.

Vietnam Holidays - Halong BayDAY 3 - Halong Bay Cruise.

After breakfast depart from Hanoi for your visit to one of the world's most spectacular natural wonder's - World Heritage-designated Halong Bay, where you will embark upon your selected luxury luxury junk for a 2 day/1 night cruise.  After a welcome cocktail and Asian buffet lunch enjoy the stunning scenery of the bay.  Explore Hang Sung Sot (Surprise Cave) with its amazing rock formations, watch a demonstration of Vietnamese cooking, and visit the Tung Sau Pearl Farm.  There will also be opportunities for swimming or kayaking.  Round off the day with a sumptuous 5-course set dinner.
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 4 - Halong Bay Cruise.  Fly to Hue.

Rise early if you wish for a Tai Chi session on the sundeck.  There will be further opportunities this morning for swimming or kayaking, and you might also wish to climb the 400 steps to the summit of Titop Island for a breathtaking panoramic view over Halong Bay.  Your cruise continues until mid morning when you disembark at Tuan Chau Island.  Return by road to Hanoi in time for the evening flight to the former royal capital of Hue.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 5 - Hue.

This morning enjoy a boat cruise on the Perfume River to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda and the Imperial Citadel.  In the afternoon drive just outside the city to the Royal Tombs of the all-powerful Nguyen dynasty who ruled over Vietnam in the 19th century and who switched the capital from Hanoi to Hue.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 6 - Via Danang to Hoi An.

Travel along the scenic coastal road south to Danang to visit the small but interesting Cham Museum. The Cham dynasties ruled over southern Vietnam for more than a thousand years (4th to 15th centuries). Continue to the picturesque port of Hoi An and transfer to your hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.

Vietnam Holidays - Japanese Covered Bridge, HueDAY 7 - Hoi An.

In the morning explore the unique trading town of Hoi An, with its beautifully preserved ancient houses and fully pedestrianised streets - perfect for a walking tour.   Visit the local market, the unusual Japanese covered bridge (pictured) and a Chinese communal house.  The afternoon is free.  An optional excursion could be arranged to the evocative Cham city of My Son, recently recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
Meals included: Breakfast.

HOI AN - New optional Electric Scooter Tour - see World Discovery Blog for March 2015.

DAY 8 - Fly to Saigon.

Return to Danang and fly to Ho Chi Minh City, better known as Saigon.  On arrival you will be taken into the centre of the city for a brief tour, including the Presidential Palace (now a museum), the History Museum and Notre Dame Cathedral.  The rest of the day is at leisure.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 9 - Fly to Phnom Penh (Cambodia).

Morning flight to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. On arrival you will be met by a representative of World Discovery and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon enjoy private guided tour of Phnom Penh.
Meals included: Breakfast.

Cambodia Holidays - Phnom Penh sunset

If you have the time, it is worth extending your stay in Cambodia's capital for a day or two.  There is much to see and do in and around the city [more].

Cambodia Holidays - Angkor WatDAY 10 - Fly to Siem Reap. Angkor Wat.

A short flight brings you to the town of Siem Reap, gateway to the temples of Angkor. Transfer on arrival to your hotel. In the late afternoon drive to Angkor Wat, the best known of the Angkor sites.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 11 - The Roluos group of temples.

During the next three days you will enjoy the most comprehensive exploration of this exceptional area, visiting all the major temple groups, as well as seeing something of the way of life in the surrounding countryside. Today you will be shown some of the earliest temples in the Roluos area. The afternoon is at leisure.
Meals included: Breakfast.

Cambodia Holidays - Angkor Thom - The BayonDAY 12 - Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm.

Today you will visit the extensive Royal City of Angkor Thom, at whose centre stands the awesome temple-pyramid of the Bayon, with its 50 towers of intricately-carved stone, one of the great masterpieces of Asian architecture. In the afternoon you will also explore the tangled 12th century ruins of Ta Prohm, whose ancient stones have been engulfed by roots and tree trunks, revealing the power of nature yet providing an atmospheric and unforgettable spectacle.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 13 - Siem Reap.  Depart for home.

Your last day in Siem Reap is at leisure.  If you are still keen on visiting more temples, there is certainly no shortage of them!  We would recommend Preah Khan, a vast temple around whose outer walls, 40 metres apart, are giant carvings of the Hindu deity Garuda, and Neak Prean, which consists of a central pool and four peripheral pools once used for purification rites.  If you wish to do some last minute shopping we highly recommend the excellent Artisans Angkor, whose profits are channelled into local education and welfare projects.  We have arranged for you to keep your room for a late check out at 18.00.  In the evening transfer to the airport for your included flight by Bangkok Airways to Bangkok to connect with your homeward flight.
Meals included: Breakfast.
