Two weeks of private touring - our most comprehensive Morocco itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrive Casablanca.  Transfer to Rabat.

On arrival at Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport you will be met outside customs by a representative of World Discovery and taken by private car direct to your hotel in Morocco's capital city, Rabat (a journey of about an hour). Recommended flight from London: British Airways (operated by bmi) from London Heathrow (see below). If you are travelling from a country other than the UK we would be happy to give you guidance on your flight options.

DAY 2 - Rabat.  Drive to Fes.

After breakfast your World Discovery Morocco holiday begins when your guide meets you after breakfast and takes you on a private tour of Rabat.  Continue afterwards in to Morocco's interior to reach the ancient city of Fes, the oldest of the Imperial Cities, dating back to AD 808.
Meals included: Breakfast.

Morocco Holidays - The tannieries at FesDAY 3 - Fes.

A full day of sightseeing in Fes, including the amazing (although very smelly!) tanneries (left).
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 4 - Meknes.  Moulay Idriss.  Volubilis.

A full day excursion to the west of Fes to visit the Imperial City of Meknes, the holy town of Moulay Idriss and the impressive Roman archaeological site of Volubilis.  Lunch today will be included at the Riad Palais Didi in Meknes.
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch.

DAY 5 - Drive through the Atlas Mountains to Erfoud.

Enjoy a scenic journey this morning via the mountain town of Ifrane, a charming ski resort in winter, and the village of Azrou, famous for its handicrafts, to Midelt, where a stop will be made for an optional lunch. The then road climbs the first slopes of the High Atlas. After Tizi N'Tairhmeht (1,890m/6,040 ft), the road descends to the impressive palm groves of the Ziz Valley, continuing through the town of Errachidia to tonight's destination, Erfoud, gateway to the Sahara.
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

DAY 6 - Rissani.  Fossil quarries.  Erg Chebbi.

After breakfast, drive to the small town of Rissani, cradle of the ruling Alaouite Dynasty, before heading off to the fossil quarries.  This region of the Sahara is rich in fossils - geodes, ammonites and trilobites in particular - which can be purchased locally.  In the afternoon reach Merzouga and the giant sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.  Take a camel ride across the dunes to reach the private tented camp operated by World Discovery's Moroccan representatives.  Enjoy the desert sunset followed by dinner accompanied by local musicians.
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

Morocco Holidays - Todra GorgeDAY 7 - Erg Chebbi.  Todra Gorge.  Skoura Oasis.

Witness the dawn over the dunes, followed by an early breakfast and departure on your long journey west to the Todra Gorge.  Take a walk through this beautiful landscape before continuing along the Dadès Gorge, which has many local fortified kasbahs.  You will also pass by Kelaa Mgouna, famous for its rose plantations, before reaching the oasis of Skoura for a 2 night stay.
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

DAY 8 - Skoura.

Today you will explore the oasis of Skoura, famous for its many kasbahs.  The Kasbah Amerhidl is the grandest and most extravagantly decorated, but you will be equally impressed by the Dar Ait Sidi el Mati kasbah.  The setting of these dramatic oasis castles in the midst of palm trees enhances the experience.
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

DAY 9 - The Kasbahs of Ouarzazate.  Drive to Taroudant.

In the morning drive to the former French Foreign Legion outpost of Ouarzazate to visit the impressive kasbahs of Tifoultoute and Taourirt. Continue to Ait Benhaddou, one of the most impressive kasbahs in Morocco which has been used as a backdrop to many films (including David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia).  In the afternoon, drive to Taroudant. The journey takes you through an arid landscape toward Taznakht, a Berber village famous for its traditional handmade carpets, and across the Siroua mountains into the Souss valley, nestled between the High and the Anti Atlas mountains.
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

Morocco Holidays - Taroudant soukDAY 10 - Taroudant.

A full day of sightseeing in and around the walled city of Taroudant, "Pearl of the Souss".  Taroudant was the first capital of the Almoravides dynasty in early 11th century.  Spend time in this ancient trading centre with its craftsmen and colourful markets, walking through the narrow bustling streets and its extensive souk (pictured).
Meals included: Breakfast, dinner.

DAY 11 -  Through the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.

A spectacular journey today through the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N'Test Pass (2,092m/6,700ft).  Although the distance between Taroudant and Marrakech is only 223km, the road’s tortuous hairpin bends make for slow progress, but you will stop at several places en route to admire the breathtaking landscape.  Reach the world-famous city of Marrakech in the afternoon.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 12 - Marrakech.

Morning at leisure.  Afternoon sightseeing tour of Marrakech including the historical sights, the bustling souks in the Medina, and the famous Djemaa El Fna Square.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 13 - The Gardens of Marrakech.

In the morning enjoy a ride by horse-drawn carriage to some of the formal Gardens of Marrakech, including the popular Menara Gardens, originally dating from the 12th century, and the Majorelle Garden, once owned by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.  The afternoon is free.
Meals included: Breakfast.

DAY 14 – Return to Casablanca for your homeward flight.

Private transfer to Casablanca Airport (a journey of approximately 2 hours) for your homeward flight.
Meals included: Breakfast.

International Flights.

We recommend the services of British Airways (operated by bmi), who have 4 flights a week from London Heathrow to Casablanca.  Timings are different each day; the best days for travelling (with a tour duration of 1 week) are Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays, as the timings are best.  Royal Air Maroc operate a daily service but the arrival in Casablanca is much later in the evening, meaning that an overnight stay in Casablanca itself is necessary.  The timings shown below are for the British Airways Sunday flights:
Heathrow/Casablanca. Depart at 11.00; arrive Casablanca at 13.25
Casablanca/Heathrow. Depart at 14.05; arrive Heathrow at 18.25

There are several airlines (including low-cost companies such as EasyJet) offering daily services from the UK to Marrakech.  If it is more convenient for you we can redesign this itinerary, without changing the price, to begin and end in Marrakech.
