DAY 1 - Arrive Lima.

DAY 2 - Morning Lima city tour.  Afternoon free.  (B)

DAY 3 - Along the Pacific coast via Pachacamac to Paracas.  (B)

DAY 4 - The Ballestas Islands by boat.  Ica.  Nasca.  Optional flight over the Nasca Lines - see below.  (B)

DAY 5 - By coach to Arequipa (see PDF for more details).  (B)

DAY 6 - Morning tour of Arequipa.  Afternoon free.  (B)

DAY 7 - Journey overland to the Colca Valley.  (B,L,D)

DAY 8 - Colca Canyon (condor viewing).  Drive to Lake Titicaca.  (B,L)

DAY 9 - By boat on Lake Titicaca to the reed islands and also Taquile Island.  Afternoon free.  (B)

DAY 10 - Across the Altiplano by the Andean Explorer train towards Cusco.  (B,L,D)

DAY 11 - Arrive Cusco in the morning.  Afternoon visit to Sacsayhuman and other Inca sites.  (B)

DAY 12 - At leisure in Cusco.  (B)

DAY 13 - Drive into the Sacred Valley.  Pisac Market.  Ollantaytambo.  (B)

DAY 14 - The train to Machu Picchu (see below).  Visit the ruins.  Overnight in the town of Aguas Calientes just below the ruins.  (B,D)

DAY 15 - Optional return visit to Machu Picchu (supplementary cost of £100 per person) with the opportunity to climb to the summit of Huayna Picchu.  Afternoon train to Sacred Valley and then by road to Cusco.  (B,L)

DAY 16 - Return by air to Lima (NOT INCLUDED - see below).  Also see note below about transit accommodation in Lima.  Depart.  (B)

Depending on the timings of your international flights, you may require day room or overnight accommodation in Lima.  We are happy to book this for you; please ask for details.

Peru Holidays - Arequipa - El Misti volcano overlooks the city of Arequipa Peru Holidays - Cusco - Inca architecture is widely known for its fine masonry, which features precisely cut and shaped stones closely fitted without mortar. This well-known stone in Hathun Rumiyoq Street in Cusco has no less than 12 angles in its jointings with the stones around it.

International Flights from the UK.

British Airways fly twice weekly from London Gatwick to Lima (and v.v.) on Sundays and Wednesdays*.  Current timings from April to October (subject to possible change) are as follows (timings are slightly earlier in both directions from November to March):
Gatwick/Lima. Depart at 13.10; arrive Lima at 19.45
Lima
/Gatwick. Depart at 21.15; arrive Gatwick at 15.35 (next day)

You can book the flights yourself via the British Airways website.  Alternatively World Discovery can book the flights for you (we levy a service charge of £25 per person for this service).

* From April to October there is an additional British Airways flight on Fridays.

If you prefer to fly on other days of the week, the best option is KLM via Amsterdam, with daily connecting services from a range of UK regional airports.

We can book your Lima/Cusco/Lima flights - and include them on your invoice.  If you are flying with LAN via Madrid, it is sometimes less expensive to include these flights in your international ticket. We are happy to discuss the various options with you and offer further guidance.

Peru Holidays - Nasca LinesTHE NASCA LINES

Mystery surrounds the origin and significance of the famous Nasca Lines, amazing geometric patterns and animal designs cut into the Nasca Plain and best seen from the air. On the afternoon of DAY 4, weather-permitting, there is the option of taking an overflight of the Lines by light aircraft - current price £110 per person for a flight of around 40 minutes.  If you don't want to take a flight your driver will take you to the tall viewing tower which gives you a good view of some of the designs.
