The Kandy House, Kandy
Built in 1804 by the last Chief Minister of the Kandyan Kingdom, this unique manor house has been sensitively converted into a luxury 9-bedroom hotel with all modern conveniences.
The aim of the current owners is to give guests an experience of staying more in a private house than a conventional hotel. In the gardens, a stunning infinity pool has been landscaped into the hillside overlooking the rice paddy fields. Delicious European fusion and Sri Lankan cuisine is on offer.
All rooms are named after butterflies and are all different. The 4 rooms ULTRA category - Red Spot Duke, Peacock Royal, Indian Admiral and Black Rajah - are larger and have access onto a verandah with chaise longues, reading chairs, table and other antiques, ideal for more private dining and relaxing. The five rooms in the DELUXE category - Sunbeam, Cornelian, Monkey Puzzle, Pioneer and Lime Butterfly - are a little smaller than the Ultra Rooms, and not all enjoy access to their own private verandah. Otherwise, all amenities and standards of furnishing are to the same high standard. Please visit the hotel's own website for details of the invidual rooms - www.thekandyhouse.com.
