Riva Surya, Bangkok
Roy Davies, World Discovery
“If you're looking for a quieter area of the city that's close to the historic attractions, this is a great choice, with the added bonus of a riverside location, so you can also use the popular and inexpensive Chao Phraya Express Boats (there's a pier right beside the hotel) to get about - the hotel's friendly staff will give you advice about routes to take. ”
Riva Surya is a modern 68-room boutique hotel located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, close to the major tourist attractions such as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
The hotel has a small restaurant and bar ('babble & rum') serving an extensive buffet breakast (with eggs cooked to order), as well as a la carte lunch and dinner. The babble & rum is a market-inspired café with a strong commitment to fresh, organic produce that is locally sourced.
Within walking distance there are several good restaurants and bars, and it's only a few minutes' stroll to the lively Khao San Road area favoured by generations of gap year students and backpackers from around the world. There is a pleasant riverside promenade which you can access from the hotel garden.
World Discovery prices are based on Deluxe Riva Rooms, with a private balcony facing the river (pictured below). The rooms are fully air-conditioned, and have a desk, LCD TV, telephone, i-pod docking station, minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, in-room safe, and hair dryer. Bathrooms are shower-only (in a separate cubicle) and offer bathrobes. Free WiFi is available to all hotel guests.
The hotel has a small gymnasium and a swimming pool with loungers and seating areas, overlooking the river.
