Usha Kiran Palace, Gwalior
The Usha Kiran Palace was built in the late 19th century and has played host to the King of England and many other celebrities. It has now been converted into a charming heritage hotel operated by the prestigious Taj Hotels and Resorts group. Set amidst 9 acres of beautifully landscaped lawns, this regal palace, rich in history, is outfitted with artistic stone carvings and delicate filigree work.
Each of the 15 rooms (below left - a deluxe room) is a reflection of the local culture and architecture. Light, airy, and modern, these rooms offer fine views and characteristic décor. Well equipped with guest amenities including verandahs, WiFi, international direct dial facility, minibar, and colour satellite TV.
The Silver Saloon overlooks a verdant courtyard and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner offering Continental, Asian and Indian delicacies. There is live indian classical music at dinner. The Courts is a courtyard café offering an alfresco dining experience in a palm-shaded court. The Bada Bar (complete with a full-size billiard table) serves a range of international and national favourites.
