Enjoy a half day tour of Vietnam's capital city, with its tree-lined streets, resplendent with French colonial architecture, including the recently restored Opera House. Pass by the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake ("Lake of the Restored Sword") in the centre of Hanoi, then visit the 11th century Temple of Literature, Vietnam's most important Confucian sanctuary consisting of 5 walled courtyards modelled on that of Confucius's birthplace in Qufu, China (below). Continue (with a choice of 'green' options*) through the Old Quarter, or '36 Streets District', a densely populated corner of the city that was once a centre of commerce where goods were sold under the street name of a particular guild. You will still see names such as Sugar Street, Tin Street or Paper Street. Ancient homes and temples are interspersed with stores in this souvenir-hunter's paradise!
* Choose between a cyclo ride - Vietnam's most traditional form of transport (20 minutes), city buggy (30 minutes) or on foot (approximately 1 hour).
